Patents

If you do not want a third party to obtain the rights to your discoveries, our company is registered as an authorized patent office in Turkey and can submit your patent application to the T.P.E. (Turkish Patent Institute). In situations where rights of preference can be applied, we can request the application of those preference rights. Don't allow illegal reproductions!

Protection of Inventions and New Technologies

As is commonly known, a patent is the document given to an inventor which gives the right to produce products based on that discovery. In Turkey, the Turkish Patent Institute (TPE) handles patent registration applications.

In order to be registered, a discovery must fall into one of the following categories:

	Something new to the world and not previously marketed.
	Discoveries, scientific theories, mathematic theories.
	Plans, methods, and rules regarding intellectual, business or entertainment activities.
	Literature and works of art, scientific works, creations that contain esthetic qualities, or computer software.
	Surgical and medical methods of treating humans and animals or methods regarding the diagnosis of humans and animals.
	Discoveries contrary to public standards or morals.
	Methods of raising types of plants or animals; methods of raising plants or animals which depend significantly on biological principles.

Types of Patents

Inspected Patent (Protected for 20 Years)

Within 15 days of applying for this type of patent we must request a report regarding the known status of the technique in question. The Turkish Patent Institute (TPE) currently has these reports done by the Austrian Patent office. The applicant requests an inspection report regarding the research report that he has requested. After doing this, the patent application will be published in the official patent publication within 18 months. For 6 months the patent application is open to criticism by third parties. If there are no objections then the decision is made to grant the patent.

Non-Inspected Patent (Protected for 7 Years)

The application process is the same as for the Inspected Patent. After inspecting the research report, the applicant requests the patent document without asking for an inspection report. In the same manner, the patent application will be published in the official patent publication within 18 months. For 6 months the patent application is open to criticism by third parties. If there are no objections then the decision is made to grant the patent.

Useful Design Certificate (Protected for 10 Years)

This type of patent is generally given to minor inventions. There is no need for the research report or the inspection report. Within 18 months of the application date the application is published in the official patent publication and is open to third-party criticism for 3 months. After answering any objections that arise, the Useful Design certificate is granted without regard to the objections. The Useful Design certificate can be obtained in a shorter period of time than a patent, and costs less.

Brand Name Registration

If you do not want your product name (or a name you plan to use in the future) to be used by someone else, contact us and we will apply for your registration. We carefully perform preliminary research, and after obtaining the maximum clarity possible regarding the names to be registered, we will start the application process for you. Since we are an authorized brand name representative we are also able to follow up on the status of your application.
